Jakarta — Synergy of Philosophy of Defense and Morals in Improving the Basic Capabilities of State Defense. This research was conducted by Mohadib, Andriansyah, Taufiqurokhman, and Azhar Fathoni from the University of Muhammadiyah Jakarta and published in  the East Asian Journal of Multidisciplinary Research (EAJMR) in February 2026.

Research conducted by Mohadib, Andriansyah, Taufiqurokhman, and Azhar Fathoni revealed that national defense strength is not enough to rely solely on military technology and security strategy. The philosophical foundation of defense science and moral integrity are the key to building the basic capabilities of defending the country that are sustainable and just.

Defense is not just about military power

In their article, the researchers explain that the philosophy of defense science helps the state understand threats in a systematic, rational, and data-driven way. Science provides methods for observation, measurement, analysis, and prediction of various security risks, ranging from physical conflicts to cyber threats and global crises.

However, they emphasized that the advancement of science without moral guidance has the potential to give birth to the abuse of power. Defense policy must remain based on the principles of justice, truth, and respect for human rights.

This research views morality as an ethical guideline in the use of military force and security policy. In conflict situations, states are required to use force proportionately and consider their impact on civilians and the environment.

Education as the foundation of defending the country

This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach to analyze the relationship between defense science philosophy, moral values, and defense policy. The results show that strengthening the basic ability of national defense cannot be separated from the education system.

The concept of defending the country, as mandated in the constitution, is considered necessary to be integrated into the formal curriculum from elementary education to higher education. Education not only instills an understanding of technology and defense strategies, but also shapes character, legal awareness, and social responsibility.

The researchers noted some key findings:

  1. Science increases the effectiveness of data-driven defense strategies and research.
  2. Morality ensures that the use of state power remains in accordance with humanitarian principles.
  3. The integration of national defense education builds collective awareness and public participation.
  4. The ability to defend the country involves military, civil, economic, and social aspects in an integrated manner.

The basic ability to defend the country, according to this study, is not solely a military responsibility. Civil preparedness, economic resilience, security literacy, and community participation are integral parts of the national defense system.

Modern and cyber threat challenges

This research also highlights the changing character of global threats. Cyberattacks, disinformation, energy crises, and climate change are new challenges that require an adaptive scientific approach. Mastery of cybersecurity technology, artificial intelligence, and big data analysis is considered important. However, digital security policies must still maintain ethics, privacy, and citizens' rights.

The author emphasizes that public legitimacy is a crucial factor. People tend to support defense policies if they see transparency, accountability, and commitment to moral values.

Synergy of science and morals as a sustainable strategy

This study concludes that the synergy between the philosophy of defense science and morality creates a balance between strategic intelligence and ethical integrity. Science gives power and analytical ability, while morality gives direction and limits.

"A sustainable defense strategy must combine scientific sophistication with moral responsibility," the researchers wrote in their article.

They also recommend further research based on empirical studies in defense education and training institutions to measure the effectiveness of the integration of moral values in strengthening the country's defense capabilities.

Implications for public policy

The results of this study offer several strategic recommendations:

1.      The integration of moral values-based national defense education in the national curriculum.

2.      Defense policy development based on scientific research and accurate data.

3.      Strengthening security literacy and public awareness of non-conventional threats.

4.      Enforcement of the principles of justice and human rights in every defense policy.

This research shows that a strong national defense is not only built through defense equipment and technology, but also through the formation of the nation's character.
