A 2026 study by Risky Diya Amalia Rais, Sindifaula Suludani,
Heti, and Siti Fadila from Universitas Muhammadiyah Luwuk shows that hand
puppet training significantly improves teachers’ creativity at RA An Nursyifa
Kindergarten in Abason Village, Banggai Kepulauan. The findings highlight the
importance of simple, innovative learning media in enhancing early childhood
education, especially in resource-limited settings.
Limited learning media often results in less interactive and
monotonous classroom experiences. At RA An Nursyifa Kindergarten, teaching
activities previously relied heavily on storytelling without engaging visual
support. This approach reduced children’s attention and participation, even
though young learners respond better to play-based and interactive learning
methods.
To address this issue, the research team implemented a
practice-based training program. The process began with an observation stage on
January 22 to identify school needs, followed by material preparation on
February 2. The training and mentoring activities took place from January 26 to
February 27, including demonstrations, hands-on puppet-making practice, and
classroom implementation.
The training used simple and accessible materials such as
felt fabric, scissors, and glue, making it easy for teachers to replicate
independently. In addition to creating puppets, teachers were trained to use
them in storytelling, dialogue, and role-playing activities.
The results show significant improvements for both teachers
and students:
- Teachers were able to independently create and use hand puppets
- Teacher creativity increased in developing learning media
- Children became more focused, enthusiastic, and active during lessons
- Two-way interaction between teachers and students improved significantly
Classroom observations (pages 7–8) indicate that children
were more engaged when stories were delivered using hand puppets compared to
traditional methods. They responded more actively to questions and participated
in dialogue, creating a more dynamic learning environment.
Risky Diya Amalia Rais from Universitas Muhammadiyah Luwuk
emphasizes that simple, creativity-based learning media can have a substantial
impact on teaching quality. She notes that hand puppets function not only as
teaching aids but also as effective tools for interactive communication in
early childhood education.
The impact extends beyond technical skills. Teachers gained
greater confidence in designing engaging and child-centered learning
activities, while students experienced more enjoyable, communicative, and
interactive lessons.
In the long term, this training demonstrates that developing
simple, low-cost learning media can be an effective solution to improve early
childhood education quality. By leveraging easily available materials and
teacher creativity, schools can create innovative learning environments without
relying on expensive resources.
