Employee performance within the Ponorogo Regency Government has come under scrutiny in a 2025 study by Nia Adityas Marchelia from Universitas Slamet Riyadi Surakarta. The research examines how work discipline and job experience influence employee performance, with the work environment acting as a moderating factor. The findings are significant as they directly relate to the quality of public services and the effectiveness of local government programs.

Performance issues in Ponorogo remain evident, including suboptimal program implementation, weak bureaucratic oversight, and a relatively low civil servant professionalism index. These challenges highlight the need to better understand internal factors affecting employee productivity.

The study applies a quantitative approach involving 70 employees selected as respondents. Data were collected through surveys and analyzed using statistical methods to assess relationships between variables. The research focuses on three main factors: work discipline, work experience, and the work environment.

Key findings include:

  • Work discipline has a positive and significant impact on employee performance (significance value 0.001).
  • Work experience also shows a positive and significant effect on performance (significance value 0.037).
  • The work environment strengthens the influence of discipline on performance (significance value 0.026).
  • However, the work environment does not moderate the relationship between work experience and performance (significance value 0.647).

These results confirm that improving employee performance is not solely dependent on experience but is strongly driven by discipline supported by a conducive work environment.

According to Nia Adityas Marchelia of Universitas Slamet Riyadi Surakarta, a comfortable, harmonious, and supportive work environment is essential in reinforcing positive work behavior. She emphasizes that organizations should foster productive workplace conditions to maximize the impact of employee discipline on performance.

The implications of this study are broad. For local governments, the findings provide a basis for designing policies aimed at improving civil servant performance, particularly by strengthening discipline and enhancing the work environment. For the field of human resource management, the study underscores the importance of non-technical factors, such as workplace atmosphere, in driving productivity.
