Home businesses are a vital pillar of
Indonesia’s economy, particularly within the micro, small, and medium
enterprise (MSME) sector. Many of these businesses are run by women, especially
PKK members who manage enterprises alongside their domestic responsibilities.
Despite their importance, most home businesses are still operated informally,
without clear task division, structured planning, or effective communication
among family members. As a result, business continuity often depends on
personal habits rather than systematic management.
Practical Training for Family Businesses
The training was held in November 2025
and involved 25 PKK mothers who actively manage home-based businesses,
including culinary production, handicrafts, and simple service enterprises.
Instead of using rigid academic methods, the training adopted a practical and
interactive approach tailored to participants’ daily experiences.
The materials covered key aspects such as
viewing family members as business assets, simple workforce planning,
competency-based role division, motivation building, effective communication,
routine evaluation, and business networking. Participants engaged in group
discussions, case simulations, and action-plan development, enabling them to
immediately apply what they learned at home.
Service Methods for Measuring Impact
To measure the impact, the researchers used pre-test
and post-test evaluations across five indicators: understanding HR as a
business asset, clarity of job division, motivation and appreciation,
communication and conflict resolution, and collaboration. Scores ranged from 0
to 100, allowing a clear comparison before and after the training.
Clear and Measurable Results
The results show consistent improvement across
all indicators. Understanding of family HR as a business asset increased from
an average score of 42 to 82. Role clarity improved from 35 to 78,
while motivation and appreciation rose from 48 to 80. Communication and
conflict resolution improved from 44 to 76, and collaboration increased
from 30 to 70.
Beyond the numbers, participants also reported
meaningful behavioral changes. Many began creating simple job descriptions for
family members, setting weekly work schedules, and holding short discussions to
evaluate progress. Several participants started involving their children in
digital marketing activities, such as managing social media promotions.
Impact on Family Economic Resilience
The findings confirm that even simple and
functional HR management can increase motivation, productivity, and harmony
within family businesses. For PKK mothers, the training also built confidence
to manage businesses more systematically while balancing domestic
responsibilities.
The program further encouraged collaboration
among PKK members. Participants identified opportunities for joint promotion,
shared raw material purchasing to reduce costs, and collective participation in
exhibitions. This network-based approach strengthens competitiveness and
reduces the isolation often experienced by small home businesses.
From a public policy perspective, the study
demonstrates that community-based women empowerment programs can
significantly support MSME development. Training models that are contextual,
practical, and participatory are shown to be more effective than purely
theoretical approaches.
