Work Environment and Occupational Safety Determine Brick Factory Employee Productivity

A recent study conducted by Andini Widya Purnama and Sudiarto from Universitas Pamulang from July 2025 to July 2026 reveals that the work environment and occupational safety play a crucial role in boosting employee productivity. Environmental Challenges and Risks in the Production Area

Operational performance at PT Mega Bata Indonesia is frequently hampered by several physical environmental issues in the factory. Main problems include noise levels from brick-molding machines exceeding comfort limits, the accumulation of production material dust disrupting cleanliness, and poor interior color layouts that fail to support work morale. Furthermore, occupational safety guarantees against accident risks in the production area also serve as a crucial focus demanding immediate improvement.

Quantitative Approach with Employee Census

This study employed a quantitative approach with an associative research type. Data collection involved the entire population of PT Mega Bata Indonesia employees, totaling 98 people, using a saturated sampling or census technique. Data analysis covered validity, reliability, and classical assumption tests, multiple regression analysis, correlation coefficients, determination coefficients, as well as t and F hypothesis tests.

Statistical data analysis yielded several robust quantitative findings:

  • The work environment significantly affects employee productivity with a contribution share of 50.6%.
  • The work environment aspect recorded a correlation value of 0.711 with a calculated t-value of 9.920, far exceeding the t-table of 1.985.
  • Occupational safety provides a significant influence on productivity of 51.6%.
  • The occupational safety variable has a correlation value of 0.718 with a calculated t-value of 10.109, which is greater than the t-table of 1.985.
  • Simultaneously, the work environment and occupational safety jointly affect productivity by 54.8%, with a regression equation of $Y = 17.585 + 0.277X_1 + 0.365X_2$ and a calculated F-value of 57.495 exceeding the F-table of 3.09.

Implications and Practical Solutions for Business

According to Andini Widya Purnama and Sudiarto from Universitas Pamulang, manufacturing companies are required to tightly manage environmental and occupational safety in an integrated manner. Concrete steps recommended include periodic lighting rejuvenation in production areas and the implementation of a safe housekeeping system for hazardous material storage.
