The rapid growth of social media has transformed the way people learn and practice religious teachings. This finding was highlighted in the research article Living Islam; Sociality Analysis of Islamic Values in the Digital Age of TikTok Media Wisdom by Abdul Sani and Fahriansyah from UIN Antasari Banjarmasin. Published in 2026 in the International Journal of Applied and Advanced Multidisciplinary Research (IJAAMR), the study reveals that TikTok is no longer merely an entertainment platform but has evolved into a digital space where Islamic faith and values are actively reinforced among online communities.
According to the researchers, the
expansion of digital technology has significantly changed the landscape of
Islamic education and da’wah. Social media platforms, particularly TikTok,
enable religious messages to reach audiences more quickly and effectively than
many conventional methods. Through short, engaging videos, Islamic teachings
related to the Qur’an, Hadith, prayer, and faith can be accessed anytime and
anywhere, especially by younger generations who dominate social media usage.
The study focuses on the
phenomenon known as Living Aqidah, a concept that describes how Islamic
beliefs are not only understood intellectually but are also practiced in
everyday life through digital interactions. Abdul Sani and Fahriansyah examined
TikTok da’wah content centered on Surah Al-Ikhlas and various Hadiths
concerning monotheism and faith. Their findings indicate that users do not
simply consume religious content; many actively engage with it and incorporate
its teachings into their daily routines.
To investigate this phenomenon,
the researchers employed a qualitative approach using the Living Qur’an and
Living Hadith frameworks. The primary object of observation was the TikTok
account Adi Hidayat Official (@adihidayatofficial_), which regularly publishes
content related to the Qur’an, Hadith, Islamic creed, and religious education.
Data were collected through content observation, comment analysis,
documentation, and literature reviews from Islamic references and academic
publications.
One of the study’s key findings
is the prominent role of Surah Al-Ikhlas in digital Islamic preaching. The
chapter, consisting of only four verses, is frequently used because it presents
the concept of monotheism in a concise and accessible manner. Its verses affirm
that Allah is One, the ultimate source of dependence for all creation, neither
begets nor is begotten, and has no equal. These teachings represent the
foundation of Islamic faith and are considered highly suitable for digital
dissemination.
The researchers observed that
TikTok users often responded positively to content discussing Surah Al-Ikhlas.
Many comments reflected behavioral changes after watching religious videos.
Some users reported beginning to recite the chapter before sleep, while others
started teaching it to their children or incorporating it more consistently
into their daily worship. These responses demonstrate that digital religious
content can influence real-life religious practices beyond merely increasing
knowledge.
The study identified several
forms of faith implementation inspired by TikTok content. These include
memorizing Surah Al-Ikhlas, reciting it after prayers, teaching it to children
from an early age, increasing the practice of dhikr, strengthening reliance on
Allah, and developing greater awareness of avoiding shirk, or associating
partners with God. Users were also found to share religious videos with others,
extending the reach of Islamic messages across broader digital networks.
According to Abdul Sani and
Fahriansyah, these activities illustrate how social media functions as a medium
for the internalization of religious values. From the perspective of Living
Qur’an studies, the Qur’an is not only a text to be read but also a guide that
shapes human behavior. When users watch a video, memorize Surah Al-Ikhlas,
recite it in prayer, or teach it to family members, the Qur’an becomes actively
present in the lived experiences of digital society.
The research also highlights the
role of Hadith in strengthening faith through social media. Many TikTok
creators combine Qur’anic verses with explanations of Hadiths concerning
monotheism and the virtues of Surah Al-Ikhlas. Presented in simple and engaging
formats, these teachings become more accessible to the public, particularly
younger audiences who are highly active online.
Beyond individual religious
practice, the study points to broader social implications. TikTok has expanded
the reach of Islamic education, allowing religious messages to cross
geographical boundaries and reach diverse audiences within a short period. The
platform contributes to increasing Islamic literacy, encouraging the practice
of religious teachings, and strengthening faith-based values in contemporary
society.
However, the researchers
emphasize the importance of critical engagement with online religious content.
Not all digital da’wah materials are based on reliable scholarly foundations.
Therefore, users are encouraged to follow credible accounts that provide
references to the Qur’an and Hadith and rely on qualified Islamic scholars for
religious guidance.
Overall, the study demonstrates
that social media has become an important arena for the practice and
transmission of Islamic teachings in the digital age. Through interaction,
understanding, and implementation of religious messages, TikTok serves not only
as a communication platform but also as a space where faith is lived, shared,
and strengthened among modern Muslim communities.
