A community service team from Stisipol Candradimuka led by Lisdiana and her colleagues successfully implemented a sustainable mangrove restoration program in Simpang Tiga Jaya Village, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, between January and March 2025. This program is crucial for addressing the threats of coastal abrasion and tidal floods that disrupt the social and economic lives of coastal communities.

The coastal area of Simpang Tiga Jaya Village previously faced severe environmental problems due to mangrove forest destruction, illegal logging, land conversion into ponds, and low public awareness. These conditions triggered severe abrasion threatening residents' settlements and reducing fishers' catch productivity.

To address these challenges, the initiative applied a participatory approach involving fishermen groups, farmer groups, the village government, students, and lecturers. Implementation included environmental education, mangrove planting mentoring using nibung and ironwood supports to withstand sea waves, household waste management training, and the introduction of simple disaster early detection tools.

Based on program evaluation, this activity recorded several major findings and results:

  • Active community participation increased sharply in mangrove rehabilitation and maintenance activities.
  • The institutional capacity of the village government grew stronger in managing citizen participation-based environmental governance.
  • Public awareness was fostered through the habit of sorting organic and inorganic waste to reduce coastal pollution.

The applied collaborative governance approach proves that synergy among the village government, community, and higher education institutions can sustainably strengthen coastal regional resilience. As emphasized by Lisdiana and the team from Stisipol Candradimuka, empowering coastal communities not only restores environmental ecological functions but also safeguards the economic stability of residents who rely on natural resources. This initiative also supports the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly climate change management and the protection of marine ecosystems.
