Integrating Wordwall and Kahoot Significantly Boosts Elementary Student Literacy-Numeracy

Ilusstration by AI

Combining the interactive learning platforms Wordwall and Kahoot has proven effective in accelerating elementary school students' literacy and numeracy competencies. Research by Tri Yudha Alamsyah from Pakuan University, published in the Journal of Educational Analytics (2026), demonstrates that integrating these two digital media creates a learning ecosystem capable of significantly improving students' academic achievement compared to conventional methods.

Addressing Educational Quality Challenges

Literacy and numeracy are critical foundations for students' higher-order thinking skills. However, PISA data indicates that the reading and mathematics abilities of Indonesian students remain below the OECD average, a condition exacerbated by post-pandemic learning loss. Historically, the use of digital technology in classrooms has been fragmented, failing to be optimized systematically within an integrated learning ecosystem.

Methodology and Research Results

The study utilized a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design involving 60 fifth-grade elementary students. Students were divided into two groups: an experimental group using the Wordwall-Kahoot digital ecosystem and a control group receiving conventional instruction.

Key findings of the research include:

  • ·         Competency Gains: The group using the integrated Wordwall and Kahoot ecosystem achieved an 18.2% increase in literacy-numeracy outcomes, significantly outperforming the control group, which recorded a 7.1% increase.
  • ·         Engagement Surge: Students in the experimental group displayed higher levels of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral engagement compared to those in the conventional group.
  • ·         Positive Correlation: A strong relationship exists between student involvement and learning outcomes, with engagement levels accounting for 64% of the variation in academic results.

Impact on the World of Education

Integrating these platforms offers a synergistic, practical solution: Wordwall serves as a medium for independent, exploratory concept practice, while Kahoot functions as a competitive evaluation tool that triggers student motivation. This approach enables teachers to foster a more interactive and enjoyable learning environment.

The study provides evidence that when technology is designed as a structured ecosystem, it can shift students from passive learners to active participants. This serves as an important recommendation for educators and policymakers to design technology-based learning strategies that go beyond merely providing devices, focusing instead on the mechanisms of psychological engagement.
