Data-Driven Decision-Making Significantly Enhances Management Effectiveness and Organizational Performance

FORMOSA NEWS — Implementing data-driven decision-making (DDDM) effectively improves decision accuracy, management efficiency, interunit coordination, and organizational performance evaluation. This qualitative study was conducted by Asri Thalib, a researcher from Universitas Khairun Ternate, Indonesia, and published in October 2026. The findings confirm the critical importance of integrating quality data, analytical competence, and a supportive organizational culture to ensure technology investments move beyond mere reports and genuinely impact management performance.

Why Data Integration Matters for Modern Management

Digital transformation has fundamentally changed how organizations manage information and make strategic choices. Today, leaders are urged to reduce reliance on pure intuition and shift toward empirical evidence for planning, control, and evaluation. Despite advances in analytical technology, many organizations still struggle to translate raw data into accurate management decisions. Therefore, understanding how managers practically utilize data in daily routines remains a vital management issue.

Research Methodology and Core Focus

The study employed a qualitative approach utilizing a case study design involving 15 experienced managers and decision-makers across various functions. Participants were purposefully selected based on their direct involvement in planning, decision-making, coordination, control, and data-driven performance evaluation.

Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews lasting between 44 and 65 minutes and subsequently analyzed using thematic analysis to identify operational patterns, efficiency gains, and implementation hurdles.

Key Findings of the Study

The thematic analysis conducted by Asri Thalib revealed six major findings regarding the role of data in organizational settings:

  • Enhanced Decision Accuracy and Confidence: Data reduces reliance on assumptions and allows managers to cross-check initial intuitions against objective facts, resulting in measurable and defensible choices.
  • Improved Management Efficiency: Readily available information shortens the time required to identify problems, set priorities, and allocate targeted resources without exhausting team energy.
  • Stronger Interunit Coordination: Sharing a single, consistent data reference minimizes subjective differences and aligns collective actions across different departments.
  • Adaptive Evaluation and Control: Real-time dashboards and performance indicators enable organizations to detect process deviations early and execute rapid corrective actions.
  • Data Quality Drives Trust: System credibility depends heavily on accuracy, consistency, and timeliness; flawed or delayed data pushes managers back into relying on unverified feelings.
  • Analytical Competence and Culture: Technology alone is insufficient; successful data integration requires human analytical interpretation and leadership that consistently values evidence in daily meetings.

Practical Implications and Real-World Impact

The study offers valuable insights for business leaders, public sector executives, and policymakers. Investments in information systems and analytics technology must be accompanied by strong data governance, standardized indicators, and comprehensive training in data interpretation.

Asri Thalib from Universitas Khairun Ternate emphasized that organizations must treat data as an active part of daily management routines rather than a passive reporting tool.

"The value of data-driven decision-making lies in how managers interpret information and translate it into continuous performance improvement and timely corrective actions," noted the researcher.
