Financial performances such as Return on Assets (ROA), Debt to Equity Ratio (DER), and Total Asset Turnover (TATO) play a crucial role in determining the direction of stock returns for transportation and logistics sector companies on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the 2022–2024 period
The transportation and logistics sector faces post-pandemic macroeconomic pressures, spikes in fuel costs, and an overall decline in industry net profit that caused the sector's index (IDXTRANS) to stagnate
This research uses a quantitative approach with a causal associative method
Based on the data testing, several main findings were discovered:
- Significant Effect of ROA: Return on Assets (ROA) is proven to have a positive and significant effect on stock returns with a significance value of 0.007 ($t = 2.827$)
. The company's high ability to generate net income from total assets serves as a strong signal responded to positively by investors . - Limited Impact of DER and TATO: Debt to Equity Ratio (DER) and Total Asset Turnover (TATO) partially have no significant effect on stock returns
. High debt ratios are considered common within the characteristics of capital-intensive industries, while asset turnover efficiency is not yet sufficient to attract market attention without real profit growth . - Simultaneous Effect: Together, the ROA, DER, and TATO variables are able to explain 16.6% of the variation in stock returns ($R^2 = 0.166$), while the remaining 83.4% is influenced by external factors such as macroeconomic conditions, interest rates, and inflation
.
