Isak Riwu Rohi and his research team from Universitas Kristen Artha Wacana examined the experiences of 60 high school students in developing physical literacy through digital technology-supported physical education practices, published in August 2026. This study is crucial for understanding how the integration of digital media, such as learning videos and physical activity applications, can shape students' motivation, confidence, and sustained understanding of physical activity.

Background and Challenges Most adolescents globally fail to meet daily physical activity recommendations, while in Indonesia these challenges are exacerbated by limited sports facilities and academic pressure. This condition demands a transformation of physical education learning so that it does not merely focus on motor skill mastery, but rather builds holistic physical literacy through technological support.

Research Methodology This study applied a qualitative approach with an exploratory case study design supported by descriptive quantitative data. A total of 60 students were involved using purposive sampling, with 10 students selected as key informants. Data were collected through 1-5 Likert scale questionnaires, classroom observations, digital reflection journals, semi-structured interviews, and movement documentation.

Key Research Findings

  • The student motivation aspect recorded the highest mean score of 4.35 in the very good category, driven by application targets and challenging digital activities.
  • Understanding of physical activity was in the very good category with a mean score of 4.22, where learning videos helped students understand movement techniques and sequences concretely.
  • Student confidence was in the good category with a score of 4.18, as movement recordings allowed them to evaluate their own abilities prior to practice.
  • Physical activity involvement and movement competence obtained scores of 4.10 and 4.08, respectively, both falling into the good category.

Implications and Practical Benefits The findings from Universitas Kristen Artha Wacana provide guidance for physical education teachers to integrate technology functionally as a pedagogical tool rather than a replacement for physical practice. This strategy helps create a more interactive, measurable learning environment and enhances students' independent awareness of long-term health.
