A 2026 study by Moh. Rafid, Kartika H. Lasada, Vira Songga,
and Desri Palindong from Universitas Muhammadiyah Luwuk shows that AI-based
mentoring significantly improves the quality of deep learning at SMP Negeri
Satu Atap Palam. The findings highlight the growing importance of integrating
digital technology into classroom learning to enhance education quality in the
modern era.
Rapid advances in digital technology have reshaped how
teaching and learning take place. However, many teachers still face challenges
in effectively using technology in the classroom. At SMP Negeri Satu Atap
Palam, learning activities were previously dominated by teacher-centered
methods, with limited use of digital tools. This reduced student engagement and
limited interactive learning opportunities.
To address this issue, the research team implemented a
participatory mentoring program. The planning stage took place on January 23
through discussions with teachers to identify learning needs and design
technology-based strategies. The implementation followed on February 5, when
teachers applied digital tools and AI-supported resources during classroom
instruction.
This approach combines deep learning principles—focused on
meaningful understanding—with interactive digital technology. Students were not
only passive recipients of information but actively engaged in discussions,
asking questions, and exploring additional resources using digital platforms.
The results show significant improvements:
- Student engagement increased through active participation in discussions
- The classroom environment became more interactive and dynamic
- Students developed deeper understanding of learning materials
- Learning motivation improved noticeably
Observations during classroom activities (as described on
page 7) indicate that students became more confident in expressing their ideas
and more actively involved in learning. AI-based applications also helped
students understand concepts more quickly and clearly compared to conventional
methods.
Moh. Rafid from Universitas Muhammadiyah Luwuk explains that
integrating digital technology and AI creates more adaptive and innovative
learning environments. He emphasizes that teachers now play a role as
facilitators who guide students to think critically and engage actively in the
learning process.
The impact extends beyond students. Teachers gained new
insights and practical experience in integrating digital technology into their
teaching. The program also opens opportunities for adopting more relevant and
future-oriented learning methods in schools.
In the long term, AI-based mentoring has strong potential to
become a model for educational transformation. It supports the development of
more interactive, adaptive, and concept-focused learning approaches that align
with the demands of the digital era.
