FORMOSA NEWS - Jakarta - Intercultural Christian Education Strengthens Critical Analysis for Christ-Centered Communication Research conducted by Kristiani Yanti Kana from Indonesian Christian University was published in the Formosa Journal of Applied Sciences (FJAS), Vol. 5 No. 2, in 2026. The study emphasizes the importance of critical analytical skills in intercultural Christian education. It shows that Christ-centered communication strategies relevant to plural societies can only be developed when students are able to understand cultural dynamics and social contexts through reflective and theological perspectives.

Responding to Indonesia’s Plural Context

Indonesia is known for its multicultural and multireligious society. While diversity enriches national identity, it can also create tension when differences are misunderstood or politicized. In such a context, communication of faith requires wisdom, empathy, and cultural awareness.
Researchers note that the gospel is always communicated within a cultural context. Jesus' ministry demonstrated sensitivity to social context, local traditions, and life experiences. Therefore, Christian education should prepare students to interact with culture wisely, not reject or dominate it.

Method: Qualitative Literature Study

The research uses a qualitative library-based approach. Kana analyzes theological texts, Christian education theories, and intercultural studies literature. Through critical reflection, she formulates a conceptual framework that integrates theology, pedagogy, and intercultural awareness.

Key Findings

The study identifies critical analysis as a foundational competency in intercultural Christian education. This competency includes:

  • Contextual awareness – understanding historical, cultural, and social backgrounds.
  • Dialogical openness – engaging respectfully with different perspectives.
  • Theological reflection – interpreting social realities through biblical principles.
  • Transformative orientation – encouraging faith that leads to social responsibility and justice.

According to Kana, these elements enable Christian communication to mirror Christ’s incarnational approach—relational, empathetic, and transformative.

Implications for Schools and Churches

The findings carry important implications:

  • Christian schools should integrate cultural analysis and dialogue into curricula.
  • Teachers must develop intercultural competence and reflective pedagogy.
  • Churches should design communication strategies that are context-sensitive while maintaining theological integrity.

Researchers argue that integrating incarnational theology with critical pedagogy enables Christian education to foster mature, inclusive, and socially responsible communities of faith.
