Students in Physical
Education, Health, and Recreation (PJKR) study programs now have a new strategy
to remain relevant amidst rapid technological progress by integrating
artificial intelligence (AI) into cultural preservation. A community service
program led by Yeremias Mamu Sare, Kristoforus Ado Aran, and Antonius Harun
Ruron from the Institut Keguruan dan Teknologi Larantuka in May 2026 proved
that a national seminar on traditional sports revitalization serves as an
effective platform for developing students' academic competence. This
initiative is crucial to addressing a dual challenge: modernizing the nation's
cultural heritage while equipping students with adaptive digital skills.
Challenges of
Cultural Preservation in the Digital Era
On one hand,
traditional sports are assets of national identity that have begun to be
marginalized by the dominance of modern sports. On the other hand, the field of
physical education is under pressure to adopt AI technology immediately to keep
pace. The gap between preserving noble cultural values and the demand for
cutting-edge technological mastery creates an obstacle to the academic
development of PJKR students. Without interventions that bridge the two, the
potential for traditional sports as a rich medium for sociological and physical
learning risks being lost.
Learning Strategy
Through National Seminars
The researchers
implemented a community service program by organizing a national seminar
designed as a space for scientific collaboration. The methodology focused on a
participatory approach, where students were not merely passive listeners but
were actively involved in discussions regarding the integration of AI
technology to document, analyze, and promote traditional sports. This activity
combined literature studies on the sociology of sports with training on the use
of digital tools for students.
Key Findings: Synergy
Between Tradition and Technology
The program showed
significant results in enhancing student capacity:
- ·
Improvement in Digital Literacy: Students successfully identified new ways to use
AI-based tools to analyze the biomechanics of movement in traditional sports.
- ·
Strengthening of Academic
Identity: There was a surge in student
enthusiasm for studying traditional sports scientifically, which were
previously considered mere recreational activities.
- ·
Adaptive Learning Models: The national seminar proved effective as a medium for
disseminating learning models that combine traditional fair play ethics with modern technological precision.
- ·
Competence Development: Students showed increased ability to integrate
technological research into the design of future physical education curricula.
Impact on the Future
of Physical Education
The implications of
this activity are far-reaching, particularly for the higher education of sports
sciences. Yeremias Mamu Sare and the team from the Institut Keguruan dan
Teknologi Larantuka emphasize that the revitalization of traditional sports
through an AI-based approach can serve as a blueprint for physical education
curriculum innovation. By understanding that technology is not an enemy to
tradition, students now possess the capacity to become agents of change capable
of maintaining cultural preservation while mastering digital instruments for
research and professional development.
