Human resource development has become the key factor determining the competitiveness of countries and companies in the global digital market era. The conclusion was presented by together with academics from , , , , and in a study published in 2026 by the Indonesian Journal of Business Analytics. The research emphasizes that competitive advantage in the digital era is no longer determined by physical assets, but by the quality of human capital.
The researchers explained that the global digital economy has transformed human resources from ordinary labor into strategic assets. In today’s business environment, the ability to manage data, solve problems creatively, and build trust with global consumers has become essential for international competition.
The study also highlighted that countries with highly skilled human resources are more capable of creating innovation, developing creative industries, and utilizing technology efficiently. Meanwhile, countries that fail to improve workforce quality risk becoming merely consumers of technology rather than producers of innovation.
The research used a qualitative approach supported by secondary data from books, scientific journals, and literature related to human resource management and the global digital economy. The analysis was conducted from the perspective of human resource experts to understand major shifts in workplace structures and future competencies.
The findings revealed a major paradigm shift in modern human resource management. The researchers referred to the perspectives of global HR experts and , who argue that human resource transformation is no longer optional but essential for survival in the global digital marketplace.
The study identified several major trends shaping modern workforce development:

- Increasing demand for digital literacy and emotional intelligence
- Greater importance of creativity and high-level problem-solving skills
- Expansion of flexible work systems such as remote and hybrid work
- Growth of the gig economy and borderless global talent recruitment
According to the research, digital literacy now extends beyond the ability to use software. It includes understanding artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital data ecosystems. At the same time, empathy, cross-cultural communication, and leadership skills are becoming critical differentiators between humans and machine-based automation.
The study also highlighted the rise of the “unlimited talent” phenomenon, where companies can recruit professionals from anywhere in the world without requiring physical relocation. Project-based work systems and the gig economy are expected to continue growing as businesses seek greater flexibility in the international digital market.
